KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team will look to extend its winning streak to five with a pair of matches this weekend against Eastern Michigan and Toledo.
First the Broncos, who enter at 14-6 and 3-1 in the MAC, take on the Eagles (3-13, 0-3 MAC) at home at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 8 at West Hills/Sorensen Courts and end the weekend with a trip to the Rockets (7-10, 1-3 MAC) home court on Sunday, April 10 at 1 p.m. WMU is currently in second place in the MAC while Ball State leads at 4-0 this season. The Broncos lead the all-time series with Eagles 36-9 and lead the Rockets 37-2.
The team is led in singles by junior Tracy Kuhle, who has a 21-10 record overall and is 3-1 in the MAC. Freshman Denise Azcui is 19-9 and has won eight straight matches to go along with a perfect 4-0 record in the MAC this season. Junior Barbare Eristavi, who earned a thrilling match-clinching win against Akron last weekend, is 18-9 overall, 4-0 in the MAC and has won five straight.
In doubles, the duo of Kuhle/freshman Melina Lyubomirova are 18-6 and 14-4 at No. 1, the only spot they have played this season. Eristavi/Katja Fevralev are 9-4 together and have won three straight matches while junior Meika Ashby/Azcui are 8-4 and have won two straight.
