NOBELSVILLE, Ind. -- The Western Michigan golf team wrapped up the 2015-16 season finishing in fifth place at the Mid-American Conference Championship at Purgatory Golf Club on Sunday.
The Broncos shot a combined 300 to give them a three-round total of 899. The combined score is the lowest in 54 holes at the MAC Championship in Western Michigan history. Chloe Lawrie, Anna Wilcoxson and Claire Hernandez all finished tied for 15th with three-round scores of 225 (+9).
"I thought we played very steady," said head coach Stacy Snider. "Posting the 293 the first day raised our expectations for the tournament, which was a good sign. As a team we showed some grit this weekend and never gave up. I'm happy Chloe ended her career here at Western with a top 15 finish and on a positive note."
Wilcoxson shot a team-best 74 (+2) in the final round, while Lawrie and Hernandez both shots 75's (+3). Lawrie finished tied for second in par-three scoring at -2 on the weekend and was one of just three golfers to record an eagle.
Julia Champion finished tied for 24th at 227 (+11) and Sarah White wrapped up WMU's golfers at 229 (+13).
Kent State claimed the MAC Championship with a three-round total of 868, followed by Toledo at 872, Ohio at 882 and hosts Eastern Michigan at 896. The Broncos finished six strokes ahead of sixth place Akron and Northern Illinois.
