KALAMAZOO, Mich. – It's a big weekend for the Western Michigan women's tennis team as Miami comes to town for a Mid-American Conference (MAC) match. The match is scheduled for Sunday, April 24 at 1 p.m. and will be played at Sorensen Courts or West Hills depending on weather.
With a win over the RedHawks, the Broncos would clinch at least a share of the MAC Regular Season Championship. If the Broncos win and Ball State loses, the Broncos would win the MAC outright.
WMU comes in at 17-6 overall, 6-1 in the MAC has won six straight matches and seven of its last eight overall. Miami, who has won the MAC regular season for the last seven years, comes into this weekend at 10-9 overall, 5-1 in the MAC and still has a match at Northern Illinois on Friday.
In singles play, junior Tracy Kuhle leads the team with a 24-10 record and is 6-1 in the MAC while junior Barbare Eristavi is 21-9 and has won eight straight matches. Freshman Denise Azcui is 21-10, 6-1 in the MAC and is 9-1 in her last 10 matches. Freshman Katja Fevralev is 20-7 overall and has won four straight and freshman Melina Lyubomirova is 19-17.
In doubles play, Kuhle/Lyubomirova are 19-7 overall and 15-5 at No. 1 doubles while Eristavi/Fevralev are 12-4 and have won six straight matches. Junior Meika Ashby/Azcui are 10-4 overall and have won four straight.
Following this match against the RedHawks, the Broncos will head to the MAC Tournament and could possibly be anywhere from the No. 1 to the No. 3 seed.
