Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan baseball team dropped game two of it's Mid-American Conference (MAC) series with Northern Illinois by a score of 17-3 Saturday afternoon at Hyames Field.
The Broncos fall to 8-23 overall and 1-7 in the MAC while the Huskies improved to 11-23 overall and 7-4 in the MAC.
NIU wasted no time on offense, getting out to a comfortable lead and slowing adding on all game long. The Huskies plated seven runs in the top of the seventh inning and later added seven more in the top of the fourth.
The Broncos cut the lead to 7-1 with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Senior
Drew Farmer led the inning off with a walk and came around to score on senior
Hunter Prince's RBI single through the right side. WMU added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning as junior
Grant Miller led the inning off with a walk. He moved over the second on a wild pitch and up to third on Prince's single through the left side. Freshman
Nate Grys came through with a single up the middle to plate Miller and make it 16-2.
WMU added one more run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Andrew Stone hit a one-out single up the middle and moved to second on
Jimmy Roche's single up the middle.
Conner Henderson followed that up with a single up the middle to load the bases with one out.
Alex Goodwin then ripped a single over the center fielder's head that looked as though it may have been caught, but Stone came in to score.
For the Broncos, Prince finished 3-for-5 with an RBI while Henderson, Goodwin and Miller all had multiple base hits.
Tyler Frank, Grys, Stone and Roche all added a hit as well as WMU finished with 13 hits as a team. NIU had three players finish with three base hits as the Huskies banged out 17 hits.
