JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Western Michigan golf team wrapped up the Bulldog Florida Invitational after taking second place at Windsor Parke Golf Course on Thursday afternoon.
The Broncos actually tied first place Ball State with a two-round total of 631 but lost on a score card playoff with BSU's fifth-best golfer's score being higher than WMU's. Western Michigan finished ahead of Richmond, Butler, Valparaiso, Northern Kentucky, Evansville and IPFW. Freshman Claire Hernandez was the top golfer for Western Michigan during the invitational, finishing tied for second after a two-day total of 151. Hernandez shot a 75 on Thursday, improving upon her 76 from Wednesday.
"We have some work to do and with the weather finally breaking in Kalamazoo we can start to practice outside," said head coach Stacy Snider. "We have three weeks until we go to Georgia State and we will work hard and prepare in the correct way to make sure we play up to our potential in our last few tournaments."
Chloe Lawrie was WMU's second-highest finisher, finishing tied for 12th after shooting 80's on both days and finishing with 160.
