EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team fell on the road against Big Ten foe and No. 75 ranked Michigan State 5-2 Friday night. The Broncos fall to 7-4 this season while the Spartans improve to 5-3 and 5-1 at home.
After the Spartans claimed the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, junior Barbare Eristavi earned a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 4 spot to tie it at 1-1. The Spartans battled back to claim the next three singles points and clinch the win. Junior Tracy Kuhle earned a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Aslina Chua in the No. 3 spot to improve to 15-8 this season, tying freshman Melina Lyubomirova with the team-lead in wins.
The duo of Lyubomirova/Kuhle, who were named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Doubles Team of the Week for three straight weeks, were up 6-5 in the No. 1 spot when the Spartans claimed clinched the doubles.
The Broncos return to action on Saturday, Feb. 27 as they host Cleveland State at West Hills at 3 p.m. Chicago State also comes to town on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 11 a.m. Entrance to all tennis matches is free of charge.
