KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's tennis team will hit the road to take on its third nationally-ranked team of the season in No. 31 Notre Dame on Sunday, Feb. 21 with match time scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Broncos will come into the contest at 8-3 overall and are fresh off a weekend where they went 4-0 defeating Detroit, Wayne State, Chicago State and Ferris State in order. The Fighting Irish will come into Sunday at 5-4 overall with a match against Kentucky earlier in the morning. Notre Dame leads the all-time series 39-21, with the Broncos.
WMU is led in wins by Matej Svjetlicic, who is 22-6 overall and 2-0 at the No. 1 spot this season. Six other Broncos come in with double-figure win totals in junior Daniel Loebel (16-8), junior Matt Hamilton (15-6), senior Andrew Cahn (14-6), sophomore Maik Steiner (12-10), freshman Eric Olivarez (11-6) and senior Ruben Greiner (10-4). Cahn is coming off a 4-0 weekend where he did not drop a set while Greiner is a perfect 6-0 this spring.
In doubles play, the duo of Hamilton/Steiner have been dominant as late, coming in with a 17-3 overall record and a perfect 5-0 record in Spring. Greiner/Loebel are 11-4 together this spring and the duo of Jefta Kecic/Jimmy Beckwith are a perfect 5-0 this spring after going 4-0 last weekend.
The Fighting Irish have one player ranked in singles in Quentin Monaghan at No. 51 and also boast the No. 6 ranked doubles team in Monaghan and Alex Lawson.
