RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team opened the 2025-26 season winning three singles titles at the River Forest Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Northern Illinois over the weekend.
SINGLES
Tim Riedel was slotted in the #1 Singles Draw, earning his first win as a Bronco after a 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) decision against Duquesne's Alessandro Hernandez. Riedel then advanced to the championship match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over SLU's Sacha Lefebure, before falling to Illinois State's Tomas Valencia.
Chen-Hui Ho claimed the #2 Singles Draw title in his first collegiate tournament. He opened with a 2-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-7) win against Saint Louis' Andres Castellanos. Ho picked up his second win against DU's Alan Gonzalez, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) before besting ISU's Adrian Dibidox 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-3).
Matej Kajzer won his opening match in the #3 Singles Draw, 7-6, 6-1, against UIC's Emil Dapcevic but fell to Jeremy Sieben from Washington University. Kajzer rebounded against DU's Ben Johnson to take third place with a 7-6, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) win.
Jack Davison also took third place while competing in the #4 Singles Draw. Davison opened with a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9) win against SLU's Riki Koshimizu but fell to Marquette's Luke Coppage 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals. Davison then defeated WU's Coleman Merce, 6-2, 6-4, in the third place match.,
Dimitri Moriarty was the second Bronco to claim a singles title, winning the #5 Draw. Moriarty opened with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Adrien Ducruet from SLU and then a tight 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win against Washington's Ethan Wu. In the finals, Moriarty beat UIC's Henrique Sa 6-4, 6-2.
Drew Evans was the third and final Bronco to win a singles title, taking #6 after a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win over UIC's Henrique Sa. In the semifinals, he defeated SLU's John Varley 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (7-3). Evans then pick up the title after a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) win over WU's Hans Deng.
DOUBLES
The duo of Riedel and Davison represented the Broncos in the #1 Doubles Draw, opening with a 6-3 win over Aleksychuk and Nokic from UIC. The pair then fell to Jeremy Sieben and Ethan Wu from Washington University.
In the #2 Doubles Draw it was Evans and Ho teaming up, defeating Duquesne's Tarquino and Verrando, 6-2, to open things up. They then earned a 6-2 win over the team of Capacci and Pavia from Illinois State.
The team of Moriarty and Kajzer opened #3 Doubles Draw with a 7-5 win over NIU's Messina and Dellien before earning a 6-3 victory against ISU's Ostro and Scarlett.
The Broncos are back in action this weekend, hosting the annual Vredevlt/WMU Invitational at Sorensen Courts. Admission is free.
