KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey team completed the weekend sweep of No. 20 Ferris State after a 2-1 win in front of 3,354 fans at Lawson Ice Arena on Friday night.

Freshman goalie Ben Blacker made 17 saves on the night and WMU (2-0-0) picked up goals from Matheson Iacopelli and Scott Moldenhauer. Aidan Muir assisted on both goals, while the Broncos outshot the Bulldogs 41-18.

Ferris State drew first blood at 12:34 in the first period. Shortly after a Bronco penalty Chad McDonald ripped one past Blacker from the right point for his first goal of the season.

Western Michigan picked up the pressure in the second period, outshooting FSU 20-4. Wade Allison and Colt Conrad each hit the post early on in the period before Iacopelli fired one past Bulldog goalie Darren Smith for his first goal of the season. Muir found Michael Rebry at center ice and Rebry dished it off to Iacopelli at the right point. The Chicago Blackhawks draft pick skated into the right circle and buried it into the back of the net at 8:10.

Ferris State had trouble keeping up with the Broncos and WMU capitalized on one of its six power plays in the period at 12:31. Muir found Moldenhauer in the deep slot and the defenseman's shot got deflected and found its way into the net for the eventual game-winning goal.

Western Michigan killed off two Bulldog power plays in the third period to seal the win.

The Broncos once again battle old Central Collegiate Hockey Association rivals next weekend with a home-and-home series with Bowling Green. WMU travels to BGSU on Friday night and then welcomes the Falcons to Kalamazoo on Saturday at 7 p.m.
