Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Western Michigan volleyball team fell at Bowling Green, 3-0 (20-25, 25-27, 19-25) on Saturday night.
WMU (8-17, 3-9 MAC) was held to a .134 hitting percentage, with junior middle blocker Sydney LeMay the only Bronco with double-digit kills with 11. Quiana Ware had nine kills, while Mary Murphy tallied 34 assists. Senior Alysia Baznik led the team with 15 digs.
The Falcons got off to an early lead to open the first set and were able to hold it for the duration. BGSU never led by more than five for the entire set, but WMU couldn't close the gap, falling 25-20.
Bowling Green jumped out to a bigger lead in the second set but WMU came storming back, using a 5-0 run to take a late 21-20 lead. The Falcons responded with a 4-0 lead to sit at set point 24-21. Back-to-back kills by LeMay and an ace by Bailey Schnell tied the set up at 24-24. The teams traded points before BGSU closed out the set with a kill by Jelena Sunjic and an attacking error on the Broncos.
The Falcons opened up a 7-1 lead to start the third set, but the Broncos answered with an 8-1 run to take a 9-8 lead. The lead was short-lived after a 4-0 run gave Bowling Green a 12-9 advantage. Western Michigan closed out the gap and tied the set up at 14-14. The teams traded points before a 3-0 run put BGSU back on top, 19-16. WMU cut the lead to one 19-18, but Bowling Green closed out the set and the match with a 6-1 run.
Western Michigan is back home against Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan on Friday and Saturday. The game against the Chippewas is set for 7 p.m. on Friday. Saturday's game against the Eagles will start at 8 p.m. Saturday is also Senior Night and the Broncos will honor Alysia Baznik, Nicole Kinser and Mikaela Ryshytylo.
