West Lafayette, Ind. - Western Michigan men's tennis earned a pair of victories over Eastern Kentucky and Purdue on the road to move to 3-0 on the year. In doubles, Maik Steiner and Jimmy Beckwith went undefeated on the day downing Eastern Kentucky's Soares and Patwardhan 6-1 and defeating Purdue's Dages and Silva 6-1 as well. The duo of Ruben Greiner and Daniel Loebel also went undefeated on the day clinching the doubles point in both matches.
In singles matches, Loebel went 2-0 on the day first defeating the Colonels' Sanchis 6-3, 6-1 and then downing Purdue's Silva 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Against Eastern Kentucky, Steiner battled back after dropping the first set to Mueller to earn the third point for the Broncos, Steiner won the match 2-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-7). Jefta Kecic clinched the match against the Colonels winning at No. 1 singles 7-6 (10-6), 6-1.
In singles play against Purdue, Greiner earned the victory over Dobradin at No. 5 singles 7-5, 6-4 to put the Broncos up 3-1 in the match. Matt Hamilton secured the Broncos win at No. 2 singles downing Ugarte 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
The Broncos are back in action against Green Bay on Friday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. at home in West Hill Athletic Club.
