KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's tennis team won a dominating 7-0 match over Detroit Friday afternoon at West Hills. The Broncos improved to 3-1 this season while the Titans fell to 0-2 in the early parts of the spring season. WMU now leads the all-time series 8-0, with the Titans.
"I thought we competed great today," Head coach Ryan Tomlinson said. "It's been a tough ten days from a schedule aspect but the play and effort was outstanding. We played better doubles today, that will help moving forward, but we still have work to do."
The Broncos started out winning all three doubles matches as the duos of Tracy Kuhle/Melina Lyubomirova (No. 1), Barbare Eristavi/Katja Fevralev (No. 2) and Meika Ashby/Denise Azcui (No. 3) came out victorious.
In singles play, the Broncos once against swept the competition. Fevralev was the first one to earn a win for the team, defeating Viktoria Laskutova 6-0, 6-4 improving her record to 11-3 this season. Lyubomirova earned a tough fought 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in the final match of the day to extend her team-high win total to 12. Junior Barbare Eristavi clinched the match for the Broncos with a 6-1, 7-5 win in No. 4 singles.
