KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan head coach Shane Clipfell has announced the addition of 5-8 guard Deborah Meeks and 6-4 forward Asia Robeson to the women's basketball roster.
A Benton Harbor, Mich., native, Meeks transfers to Western Michigan from Kansas State and will be eligible for the Broncos this season as a fifth-year senior. Robeson returns to her hometown of Kalamazoo after playing her freshman season last year at Auburn. Due to NCAA transfer rules, she will sit the 2015-16 season. Robeson is a Kalamazoo Central graduate and was ranked as the No. 22 player in the nation as a senior in high school.
"We are extremely happy to be bringing two local student-athletes back to Michigan to finish their collegiate academic and athletic careers," Clipfell said.
"Deborah had a great high school career at Benton Harbor. When we became aware of her situation we felt like she was an ideal fit for our team. She brings us a wealth of experience at a position we are relatively young at yet. She has won a national championship and played at high levels so she brings some intangibles both on and off the court that we think are important for us now.
"We recruited Asia very hard out of high school and she should have a long term impact on our program. She is a very versatile player with a love for the game. She will play multiple positions for us having both perimeter and interior skills. With her having the year in residence it will allow her to get stronger which will help her grow her game. She plans to study either criminal justice or communications."
