LEBANON, Ohio– The Western Michigan golf team registered a three-day, 54 hole total of 950 (312-323-315) to place sixth at the 2015 Mid-American Conference Championship. The event was played at the par 72, 6,191-yards Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio with Bowling Green serving as the host institution.
After maintaining fourth place for the first two rounds, sophomore
Anna Wilcoxson tied for 11th with a 235 (75-78-82). Freshman
Julia Champion moved up from 24th on Saturday to also tie for 11th with a 235 and fired a Sunday low round of 75 for Western Michigan. She had an opening two rounds of 78 and 82.
Junior
Chloe Lawrie finished tied for 22nd (80-82-78--240), senior
Laura Moutrey was tied for 26th (79-84-80--243) and freshman
Taylor Arenson was 37th (81-81-86--248).
Sophomore
Kaitlyn Watkins was honored as Second Team All-MAC this weekend due to her play during the regular season, but had to sit out the championship weekend due to injury.
“This year was full of ups and downs,” said first-year WMU head coach
Stacy Snider. “We did a lot of things that this program hasn't done in a while we also were reminded that success doesn't happen overnight and that winning is a process. I was very proud how Julia and Anna played in their first conference championship and of Laura and Chloe's consistent play this week.
“Even though the moral was a little down without all-conference selection
Kaitlyn Watkins, Taylor stepped in and got some great experience. I look forward to building this younger team for next year.”
Kent State captured the tournament title for the 17th straight year at 54-over par 918 (304-305-309), 10 strokes ahead of Eastern Michigan (315-307-306--928).
The Golden Flashes' Josee Doyon captured medalist honors with a six-over par 224 (74-74-74) and Bowling Green's Patricia Holt finished as runner-up at 11-over par 227 (77-75-75).
