MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team ended up with a split during their two-match weekend in Milwaukee, as the Broncos fell 6-1 to the Marquette Golden Eagles at Helfaer Tennis Stadium on Saturday. With the loss, the Broncos fall to 4-5 overall on the season.
Tracy Kuhle recorded a singles win at the No. 3 singles position, holding off Ali Dawson in a second-set tiebreaker to give the Broncos their sole point of the day. Kuhle cruised past Dawson 6-2 in the first set but was forced to play a tiebreaker in the second set, edging out Dawson to take the set 7-6 and the overall match in straight sets.
The Golden Eagles took the doubles point to control the match early on, with WMU and Marquette splitting the first two doubles matches on the courts before the Golden Eagles took the rubber match. Barbare Eristavi and Yuriko Ono tied the doubles session with a convincing victory over Diana Tokar and Paula Tormos Sanchez, winning 6-1 to tie the doubles session at a win apiece. Dawson and Aleeza Kanner took the No. 2 doubles match to clinch the point, and Marquette went on to win the first four matches of singles play to clinch the team win.
