MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team won their second straight match and their first on the road this season when they defeated the Milwaukee Panthers 6-1 in Milwaukee on Friday. With the win, the Broncos even their record at 4-4 on the season; they will take on Marquette on Saturday.
The nationally-ranked doubles pairing of Meika Ashby and Caroline Aleck played together for the first time in three weeks and picked up a big tiebreaker victory over the Panthers' top pairing of Alysa Straub and Christina Colarossi, defeating them 7-6 (9) to remain undefeated at the No. 1 doubles position. Tracy Kuhle and Ella Perinovic also recorded a doubles victory, winning 6-3 over Dana Shannon and Laura Kovacs at the No. 3 spot as the Broncos took the doubles session as well as a 1-0 lead in the overall match.
The Broncos took five of the six singles matches on the courts on Friday afternoon as well, picking up three straight-sets wins and a pair of three-setters to finish off the 6-1 team victory. Ashby came back from a set down to beat Chelsea Bailey at the No. 1 singles spot, winning 4-6, 6-0, 6-4, while sophomore classmate Yuriko Ono pulled a similar trick in beating Aerielle Pendleton 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5) at the No. 6 spot. Olivia Myers recorded a straight-sets win over Dana Shannon at the No. 2 spot, winning 6-1, 6-1, Tracy Kuhle cruised past Straub at the No. 3 singles spot, and Barbare Eristavi rounded out the scoring with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Mardee Merar in the No. 4 singles spot.
