Broncos Post 11th Shutout, 10th Win of the Season With Wysong's Game-Winner

Box Score PEORIA, Ill.- The Western Michigan men's soccer team posted its 11th shutout and its 10th win of the season, defeating Bradley on the road Tuesday, 1-0.

It was the third straight shutout for Western Michigan and its fourth in the last five games. The previous school record for shutouts was nine, set in 1988 and 1989. WMU broke that record this past Saturday with its 10th clean sheet at Northern Illinois and continued to add to that mark with its 11th shutout against Bradley.

The Broncos are undefeated in their last six games and enter Saturday's regular-season finale against Mid-American Conference rival Buffalo with a 10-3-4 overall record. Western Michigan has already qualified for the upcoming four-team MAC Tournament, Nov. 13 & 15, with a 2-1-1 record in conference play.

The victory was WMU's 10th of the season, making it the just the 11th double-digit win season in program history. The school record for victories is 12, accomplished in 1998 and 2003.

Senior Nick Wysong scored the game's only goal Tuesday night, notching his team-leading sixth goal of the season with a free kick inside the right post in the 28th minute. It was his fourth game-winner of the season, one shy of a program-best five tallied by Malen Earl in 1993.

Redshirt sophomore keeper Drew Shepherd kept his undefeated record intact in goal, making two saves. Shepherd has a 7-0-3 record in between the posts and has allowed just two goals this season. He leads the nation in save percentage and goals against average.

“It was a solid win on the road for us,” said WMU head coach Chad Wiseman. “Bradley is a team that is tied for first place in the Missouri Valley Conference and is as blue-collar team you will come up against.

“In the first half we had them locked in their end for long periods of time, we moved the ball well and were strong on the ball when needed. Wysong came up with another game-winner tonight, he leaves his impact on every game.”

WMU led the shot count against Bradley 11-9 and had an 8-3 advantage on corner kicks. The Braves' record slipped to 7-9-0 with the loss.

Western Michigan's kickoff against Buffalo Saturday set for 1 p.m. from the WMU Soccer Complex. The Broncos will honor its 2015 senior class prior to the match.

“We are all very excited for the game Saturday,” Wiseman said. “Its Senior Day and we have 10 unbelievable seniors on our team.”
