CHICAGO, Ill.- Ryan Howe's strike for Loyola-Chicago in the 19th minute proved to be the game-deciding goal as Western Michigan fell on the road to the Ramblers, 1-0.
The goal was generated off of Loyola's only shot of the first half and on the counter attack. Midfielder Brian Bement went on a long run and found Howe streaking into the 18. Howe fired from 15 yards away, tucking his shot into the far right post. The win improved Loyola to 2-0-0.
“Give Loyola credit on their goal, it was a very composed counter attack and a great strike,” said WMU head coach
Chad Wiseman.
“I thought we played well and created several really good chances. Our lack of quality in the final third cost us the result today. We have a few bad trends happening early in the season, we have to correct those.”
For the third time in as many games this season, Western Michigan (0-2-1) led its opponent in the shot differential and in corner kicks, but was unable to come up with a result. The Broncos took five shots in the first half and four more in the second, while Loyola only had three looks the entire game.
Nick Wysong led WMU with four of the team's nine shots.
“These guys are tough and will work through this rough patch. We know we're talented and the results will come. Our team is going to keep working hard and believing in our system.”
The Bronco conclude their stay in Chicago this weekend Sunday, heading across town to face DePaul at 2 p.m. ET.
