MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Western Michigan women's tennis team found success in singles play on the first day of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, splitting the singles session with host school Marquette on Friday. The Broncos will return to action on Saturday, taking on the Golden Eagles in doubles play and Wisconsin in singles.

The Broncos took the overall singles session with the Golden Eagles, winning four of seven matches to hold the edge on Marquette. The wins themselves were evenly divided amongst returning players and newcomers, as two freshmen recorded their first collegiate wins and two veterans started their seasons off strong.

Freshman Olivia Myers earned her first collegiate win with a straight sets effort against Ali Dawson, winning 6-2, 6-4. Classmate Labina Petrovska authored a similar effort in beating Paula Tormos 6-4, 7-5.

Sophomore Meika Ashby notched the third straight-sets win for the Broncos on Friday, cruising past Ana Pimienta 6-3, 6-2 for her first win of the season. WMU's success was capped by senior Caroline Aleck, bounced back from a first-set tiebreaker loss to Vanessa Foltinger to win her first match of the season 6-7, 6-3, 1-0.
