Steve Hawkins' Opening Statement
I thought that we played fairly well. This is kind of what we've been seeing so far where we've shot the ball real well. You look at what David and Austin did today, they were terrific from the field and did well. I thought our defensive intensity was pretty good. Execution was a little sloppy at times, and we handled the ball a little sloppy on the fast break, especially in the first half where we were trying to race it up the floor. We could see what was developing in front of us but we got a little anxious, turned the ball over a little too much. The second half we still had eight turnovers, but it was different in how they came up. Aquinas is solid. If you let them play their brand of basketball, and let them get open looks, they have outstanding guard play. If you don't guard the ball well, you give them open shots and they're a problem.
On Austin Richie and David Brown's Performances
I just told Robin [Hook] in the postgame radio show that watching those two shoot reminds me of one of my favorite movies, “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” If they're wide open, they're not as good of shooters as they are when they're moving, coming off screens and hitting contested shots.
