BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team completed its first day of action at the Hoosier Classic hosted by Indiana, with
Caroline Aleck advancing to the semifinals of the Indiana Singles Draw and teaming with
Ella Perinovic for a doubles win on Friday. The Broncos will resume competition on Saturday morning.
Aleck overcame a tiebreaker in the first set of her opening round match against Morehead State's Alex Tachovsky to close out a decisive second set, taking down her opponent to move into the round of four on Saturday. She cruised past Tachovsky 7-2 in the tiebreaker to decide the first set, and held off her opponent to the tune of a 6-4 score in the second set to earn the victory. Aleck will face Cincinnati's Ali Miller tomorrow in her only singles match of the day.
The Broncos' lone senior was also successful in doubles play, rebounding from an opening round loss to take a decision against the Bearcats' Katya Bure and Kelly Poggensee-Wei. The duo was near-flawless in their victory, going up several breaks and eventually taking the match by an 8-3 score. Aleck and Perinovic will continue into the doubles back draw.
Elsewhere in the doubles draw, the pairing of Tracy Kuhle and Barbare Eristavi won in their opening round match-up, defeating Middle Tennessee State's Sarah Sediri and Alexandra Torres. Kuhle and Eristavi worked quickly against the pair of Blue Raiders, finishing them off with an 8-4 score. The pair lost in the next round, though, falling to opponents from Cincinnati.
