WMU vs Nicholls Football Quotes

Nicholls Quotes

Coach Stubbs on what this win means for the program:

“I mean, it's been a process for four years. I remember when I came in here we only had 56 players, now we have 110 in the program so we better scout teams, we have competition for position. It's hard at my level of football to recruit linemen, we finally have gotten to where we have some decent linemen and when you have a chance up front, you have a chance…”

Marcus Washington on what this means for the program:

“Past couple years we haven't been the best, but we always give 100%. To get a win this early in the season gives us a lot of momentum going forward.”

WMU Quotes

Head Coach P.J. Fleck

Opening statement:

"We didn't earn the victory. We didn't earn it; but whether we win or lose it will not define us. This program will not be defined by one game. We knew this was going to be a tough year; you've heard me say that this is going to be a building year. We have to dig a little deeper in to the foundation now. There are 115 kids in there who are hurting because they didn't want to lose this football game. They fought tooth and nail and scratched and clawed, but we made some mistakes. I am still proud to be their football coach. I love those kids in there. One game will not define this football program, nor the direction that we are going. This football team is going to go in a way that is positive, and they are going to learn and grow from it. We didn't deserve to win that football game. This team has to learn to win. There are a lot of young kids in there who have to learn how to win, and it's not going to be easy. We have to give Nicholls credit, they came out and played awesome."

On the play at the line:

"Tyler got hit a lot. I thought we did a nice job establishing runs, and they made some adjustments. Our outside zone play was also really working, but Tyler is getting hit way too much. We can sit and talk about how four out of five that have never played a football game but who cares? You have a job to do and you need to do it."

Senior Quarterback Tyler Van Tubbergen

On not being able to come away with a win:

"It's frustrating getting a loss, but we didn't put up good enough numbers. Their defense played well, and we just weren't able to execute well enought. It doesn't matter if we played well on offense or defense because we didn't come away with a win."

Senior RB Brian Fields

 On second half momentum:

"We talked about getting back to playing football during half time in the lockerrom. Everyone out there has to be into to it, and we made up in our minds that we had to get that done."

 Junior CB Donald Celiscar

 On his personal performance:

"First of all congrats to Nicholls on their performance in tonight's game. Tonight I wasn't one hundred percent myself. That was not my best game and I know that I can play better than that. I felt like I let my teammates down. I need to work on the little stuff to be better overall."
