BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Western Michigan women's tennis team went 3-2 in doubles competition on Saturday, as the Broncos wrapped their second day of competition at the Hoosier Fall Classic hosted by Indiana. The Broncos will conclude their stay in Bloomington with one round each of singles and doubles on Sunday.
The Broncos excelled in doubles competition on the second day of the tournament, with three of the four different doubles pairings each picking up a win in their respective matches. The doubles pairing of Kelsey King and Yuriko Ono were the first to earn a victory on the day, beating the duo of Kansas State's Livia Cirnu and Riley Nizzi 8-2 in the opening round of doubles on Saturday. In an interesting note, the win represented the third different doubles partner that Ono has earned a win with this season; she also teamed with Caroline Aleck and Barbare Eristavi earlier in the year for wins.
The afternoon doubles session saw the Broncos split four matches, with two other doubles pairings winning to cap the day. Eristavi and Kathleen Hawkins took on the pairing of Cincinnati's Sierra Sullivan and Katya Bure and secured an easy victory, defeating the pair of Bearcats by an 8-1 score. Rounding out the doubles wins for the Broncos was Caroline Aleck and Meika Ashby, who also scored a quick win over Cincinnati's Angela Wilson and Hannah Wille with an 8-1 victory.
Tomorrow's play will begin at 10:30 a.m., and will feature one round of singles and one round of doubles.
