JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Iris Campbell's season continues on after she qualified for the semifinals of the 400 meter hurdles at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championship after taking ninth overall at the NCAA East Regional Preliminaries on Friday night.

Campbell, who also ran the ninth fastest time during the first round of preliminary qualifying on Thursday, ran a season-best time for the second straight day with a time of 58.09 seconds. The time was also a new personal-best for the junior hurdler. Campbell once again had to overcome some trouble with a hurdle as she bumped the final one.

"Physically she is ready to pop a really fast time," said head coach Kelly Lycan. "She has had a little bit of trouble at times on the curves but she is making a lot of progress. That is one of the best things about her, she is one of our most talented athletes but she also has one of the strongest work ethics."

Also competing was sophomore thrower Andrea Hiler, who just missed out on advancing by finishing 15th overall in the discus with a distance 47.96m/157-4.

"She did a lot better than last year," said Lycan. "Last year she had some problems with consistency but this year she worked hard with coach (Bill) Griffey and was a lot more consistent. The more athletic she gets the further the distances we are going to see from her."

The Broncos are still in action on Saturday with Chiara Allen competing in the triple jump in the afternoon, while Campbell, Victoria Chatman, Leya Munwam and Andrea Arnold compete in the 4x400 meter relay at 9:45 p.m.
