FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- Western Michigan freshman goalie
Frank Slubowski has been named Central Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Month for February after helping the Broncos secure a second place finish in the CCHA.
Slubowski finished the month with a 4-3-1 record with a .917 save percentage and a 1.87 goals against average. In WMU's four wins in the month the Prince Rupert, B.C., native only surrendered four goals.
In eight games he only gave up seven goals during five-on-five hockey. During the final weekend of the regular season he made 41 total saves to help tie No. 1 Ferris State, 1-1, and then shut them out the following night in a 3-0, 25 save performance. He aslo had wins over Alaska, No. 15 Ohio State and Lake Superior State. Slubowski is the first and only Bronco this season to win a CCHA monthly award.
The Bronco hockey team will be holding an open scrimmage on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by an autograph session for fans afterwards.
