WMU vs. Nicholls Post-Game Notes

Pregame

 

  • WMU is 5-1 in home openers under head coach Bill Cubit.

  • This is the 73rd full season WMU has played at Waldo Stadium. The Brown and Gold own a 54-17-1 record all-time in home openers at Waldo. 

  • This is the 20th time WMU has hosted its CommUniverCity event. 

  • WMU is playing the same Division I-FCS team in back-to-back seasons for the first time since playing Louisiana-Monroe in 1997 and 1998. 

  • WMU leads the all-time series 1-0, winning last season's meeting 49-14.  

  • K John Potter carries a school record of 73 consecutive PATs made into tonight's contest. 

  • WR Jordan White has 100-plus receiving yards in each of his last two games, dating back to last season. White's next game of 100 or more yards receiving will put him in sole possession of third place in school history. He is currently tied with Jamarko Simmons with 12 games of 100-plus receiving yards. 

  • Nicholls has beaten two Division I-FBS schools all-time; Arkansas State (2001) and Rice (2007). 

  • Nicholls rushing attacks ranks fifth in FCS this season.

  • First career start for WR Dervon Wallace

  • Alex Carder's 23-yard completion to White on the game's first play is the Broncos' longest pass play this season. 

  • First reception of season for TE Clark Mussman

  • WMU has scored on each of its opening drives this season. 

  • First career touchdown catch for Mussman. First passing TD of the season for the Broncos. 

  • PAT made by Potter is his 74th consecutive make. 

  • Carder completes all of his passes on the opening drive for the second consecutive week. 

  • First career start for DE T.J. Lynch

  • First career forced fumble by DT Travonte Boles

  • Winchester with a new career-high in tackles. 

  • Forced fumble by Paul Hazel is his first of the season and fifth career. First career fumble recovery for CB Jon Henry. First turnover of the season forced by WMU.

  • 19-yard rush by Carder is his longest of the season. 

  • With a 4-yard reception, White passes Corey Alston for fourth place in career receiving yards in school history. 

  • WMU with a lead at the end of the first quarter for the second time this season.

 

 

Second Quarter

 

  • Carder completed his first six passes. 

  • Fourth career rushing TD for Brian Fields (first of season). 

  • PAT make by Potter is his 75th consecutive make. 

  • Boles with a new career-high in TFL. 

  • Season-long 17-yard punt return by White. 

  • Second two-touchdown game of career for Fields, tying his career-high. The 17-yard TD rush is his longest carry of the season. 

  • Potter with is 76th consecutive PAT make. 

  • Interception return for TD by Nicholls' Chika Madu is the third defensive touchdown scored against WMU this season, and the first TD of Madu's career. It is his first interception of this season and second of career. 

  • Ben Armer ties season long with 49-yard punt. 

  • First-career rush by WR Robert Arnheim

  • First reception of season for Fields. 

  • Career-long 17-yard reception by WR Eric Monette

  • First TD reception of season for Arnheim, the sixth of his career. First TD catch since Oct. 30, 2010 (Northern Illinois). 

  • Potter with his 77th consecutive PAT make. 

  • First career tackle for SS Donald Celiscar

  • First time WMU has led at the half this season. 

 

 

Third Quarter

 

  • Potter with his 29th career tackle, extending his school record for tackles by a kicker. 

  • Rover Johnnie Simon with a new career-high in tackles. 

  • Season-high in receiving yards for Arnheim. 

  • First half-sack of season for Deauntay Legrier and Freddie Bishop

  • First career interception for Simon. First interception of the season for Simon. 

  • New career-high receptions for Monette. 

  • First reception of season for TE Dallas Walker

  • Antoin Scriven with his second touchdown of the season, and fourth of career. 

  • Potter with his 78th consecutive made PAT. 

  • First action of the season for QB Tyler VanTubbergen

  • Drake's 29-yard rush is a season-long and gives him a season-high in yardage. It is the Broncos' longest play from scrimmage this season. 

  • First solo sack of the night for Bishop, giving him a career-high 1.5 sacks on the night. 

 

 

Fourth Quarter

 

  • Season-high in rushing attempts and yards for Dareyon Chance

  • First reception of season for WR Ansel Ponder is also VanTubbergen's first completion of the season. 

  • Walker ties career-high in receptions. 

  • First career tackle for SS Trevor Ishmael

  • First career reception for WR Josh Schaffer

  • Career-highs in completions and attempts for VanTubbergen. 

  • Potter's 40-yard field goal is a season-long. Potter is now 5-for-8 in his career on field goal attempts between 40-49 yards. 

  • Potter with his 30th career tackle. 

  • First sack of season for Weston Peiffer

  • First career interception for LB Chris Prom

  • Mike Perish with his career debut at QB for WMU. 

  • First career carry for RB Michael Johnson

 

 

Postgame

 

  • WMU now 6-1 in home openers under Cubit, and 55-17-1 all-time in home openers at Waldo Stadium. 

  • White moves into fourth place in receiving yards in school history with 2,462 yards, passing Corey Alston (2,456). 

  • Potter extends consecutive PATs made streak to 78 (school-record).  

  • Potter extends his school-record for tackles by a kicker to 30. 

  • Career-highs in receptions for Monette (2) and Schaffer (1). Walker (3) and Mussman (2) tie career-highs. 

  • Wallace and Lynch with their first career starts.
