KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Senior place kicker John Potter became the 13th Bronco to earn Capital One Academic All-District over the past nine years. Potter earned first team and is now eligible for Capital One Academic All-America.
Potter, a finance business major carrying a 3.98 GPA was the District V winner and the only kicker selected to the district team. Potter carries the highest GPA among the five kickers he is competing against for Academic All-America.
On the field, the Grand Haven, Mich., native most recently broke the Mid-American Conference record for consecutive PATs made in a career (114) and is now also tied for the program lead in all-time scoring (307). His 81 points rank sixth in a season at WMU and are five behind his personal best of 86 in 2010.
Western Michigan football boasts 10 Capital One Academic All-America selections, including one in each of the last four seasons. If Potter earns All-America status, he would be second Bronco from Grand Haven, Mich., to earn the honor in as many seasons. Phillip Swanson was a two-time Capital One Academic All-America selection in 2008 and 2010.
