WMU at BGSU Post-Game Quotes
WMU Head Coach Bill Cubit
Opening Statement
"We did OK running the ball, you know
351 yards is a lot of yards. It was a very hot day and our goal was
really to save the wide out. In that game, we would have just worn those
guys out. Alex (Carder) even in the first quarter he had a lot of those
runs off of some scrambles but we had to save those kids. Kevin Galeher
really helped us out. I thought our kids up front did a great job our
running backs really ran well down hill and played really well. The
passing game gives us a lot of big plays. Jordan White had another
typical Jordan White day and we got the chance to get Tyler (Van
Tubbergen) out there. We wanted to put him in and get him some game
experience. When he came in it was all scripted. He looked really good
so we gave him some more to work with, I thought he handled it very
well."
WMU Quarterback Alex Carder
Q: There's been a lot of talk about the running game this week, could you talk about the running?
A: We've had a patched-up offensive line for all of this season so far and we just got our starting center back in Kevin Galeher. Honestly, I think that was the biggest difference because Kevin is a lot more than just a good lineman to us; he was a leader out there and he told people what to do and got people in the right spots. Having him out there again was a new experience. He was making calls; he was communicating and I think that was what we were lacking in the first couple weeks as far as a run offense. I think with Kevin back in there we are going to click a lot better.
WMU receiver Jordan White:
Q: It seems like every week you're passing someone or setting a new record, are you aware of were you are in terms of history setting?
A: I'm not really aware of any of that, I just know of some marks that like last year I broke just because they were stated after the season. You know for the must part, I just come out and what I can do to help the team. I made a block...I'm probably more excited about that and will get a pat on the back for that during film than for anything else.
WMU defensive lineman Freddie Bishop:
Q: Can you talk about that fourth down stop because at that point Bowling Green was moving the ball up and down the field?
A: At that point, that was a key stop and something we really needed. We really needed to get off the field. It had a toll on the game.
Bowling Green Head Coach Dave Clawson
On the overall effort:
"We're very disappointed with the result. I thought in the first half our guys came out ready to play. I thought we went toe-to-toe with them. Evidently not converting fourth downs and then making it 28-14 made it a huge turning point in the game. I think if we could have gotten one of the conversions to even the score going into the half, we could have given ourselves a chance to be in the football game in the second half."
"That 14-point swing really hurt us and our inability to stop their run on defense. For four weeks, we played well on defense and in the last two weeks we've had to defend really good teams. We have not responded to that challenge anywhere near the level we need to. "
On the 4th-and-inches at the end of the second quarter:
"It's six inches and it's a quarterback sneak and we just didn't get it. The fact is their defensive line is better, and the fact is we just have to get those six inches. We tried to hurry up and catch them off guard on defense. We tried to quick-snap it before they got lined up. I thought he got it, but the replays and the refs on the field called it otherwise, and that call just didn't go our way."
On Bowling Green defense:
"Their scheme is predicated by their ability to throw the football and almost every score they got was missed tackles on our part. It's good guys missing those tackles. Four times out of five they make those tackles, and today they didn't. For the first four weeks, we got away with it, and now you're going against some really good teams and when you make those little mistakes and you don't use proper fundamentals, they make you pay dearly for it. "
