PRE-GAME

  • WMU is starting a new QB for the first time since the 2007 opener at No. 3 West Virginia
  • WMU is 2-10-0 against Michigan State with the last win coming at home on Oct. 11, 1919 (21-18)
  • WMU's last win over a Big Ten team came on Nov. 8, 2008 vs. Illinois at Ford Field (23-17)
  • Coach Cubit (sixth season) is the second longest tenured coach in the MAC behind Kent State's Doug Martin

FIRST QUARTER

  • Alex Carder's first attempt is intended for Juan Nunez but incomplete

SECOND QUARTER

  • Deauntay Legrier records first sack for WMU defense this season

  • WMU and MSU have each capitalized on turnovers, scoring a touchdown each
  • Carder hits Nunez for 21 yards and first down - longest play from scrimmage to that point for WMU

  • MSU's Bell rushes 75 yards on second down; longest run against WMU in 2009 was 71 yards

THIRD QUARTER

  • Blake Hammond scored his third career TD with two-yard catch; giving him two against MSU
  • Carder is the third-straight WMU QB to have multiple TD passes in his first collegiate start (Tim Hiller - 3 at Bowling Green (10/22/05); Ryan Cubit - 2 at Illinois (9/18/04)
  • Carder throws first career interception

FOURTH QUARTER

  • MSU has two running backs over 100 yards rushing for first time since 2006 vs. Pitt
  • Hammond sets new career high for receiving yards on his fourth catch giving him 61 yards to that point; previous career high was 35 yards against MSU in 2009
  • Carder has second run of over 10 yards with an 18-yard run
  • Backup quarterback Tyler VanTubbergen took over under center on the Broncos' final drive and completed his first career pass for six yards to Dallas Walker
  • Drew Burdi haule in his first career reception
