WMU Golf Competes at the Ladies Midwest Shootout

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan golf team is one of 11 teams in the Ladies Midwest Shootout field this weekend.  The one-day, 36-hole tournament is hosted by Purdue and will take place on the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex on Saturday, April 11.

There are seven teams from the state of Indiana competed in this event and three teams from the Mid-American Conference, including the Broncos.  Those teams representing the Hoosier state are Ball State, Butler, DePauw, Franklin, University of Indianapolis, IUPUI and Purdue (host).  Cincinnati and Kent State represent the Buckeye State, with the Golden Flashes joining BSU and WMU from the MAC. Vanderbilt and the Broncos round out the field.

This will be the first time this event has taken place and it is newsworthy due to the course it is being played on, this course will host the Big Ten women's championship in two weeks and it hosted the 2008 NCAA Men's Championship, and the quality of competition.  Three of the Top 25 teams in the country, according to golfstat.com, are in this field.  The Boilermakers are the highest ranked team at No. 9, Vanderbilt ranks No. 20 and Kent State ranks No. 23.

The tournament gets under way at 8 a.m. (ET) with a shotgun start.  Each team will play six golfers with the best four scores counting towards the team total.  Final results will be available at www.wmubroncos.com at the end of the day.
