NASHPORT, Ohio - The Broncos held on to their placement at the 2009 Mid-American
Conference Women's Golf Championships, finishing tied for third with
Akron University. Britney Hamilton finished tied for fifth en route to
being named to the All-Tournament Team. Elise Swartout Second Team
All-MAC honors.
Western Michigan collected 23 birdies during the four rounds, finishing third in the MAC Championships for the third time in program history. From day one WMU, which carded its lowest team score of the tournament on Sunday with a 314, held the third spot behind Eastern Michigan and 2009 champion Kent State.
"I was happy with the way we played overall and I told the team it was a good test for us. I give us a 'B' this weekend," commented head coach Cindy Trout. "The conditions were difficult with the wind and it was a mental and physical obstacle all weekend. We need to work on putting together good scores on the same day, but I am very proud of Britney making the All-Tournament Team and Elise earning All-MAC."
Hamilton, who is playing in her first MAC Championships played her way onto the All-Tournament Team, finishing tied for fifth on the strength of a 4-over par 76 on Sunday afternoon and erased a bad memory of the 18th hole in the process.
"This experience was a little overwhelming, I was nervous stepping up the first tee each day but I am happy with the way I played and very happy with my par on the 18th. I feel I had a little bit of revenge on that hole today," commented Hamilton on the ride back to Kalamazoo.
Swartout finished tied for 15th for her best finish at the MAC Championships, earning Second Team All-MAC along the way. She too carded a 4-over par 76 in the final round. Also scoring low and shaving strokes off her previous round score was Stephanie Koske. The sophomore shot a tournament personal best 79 during Sunday's final round.
