Golf Heads to Indiana for Otter Creek Invitational

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan golf team is back on the course this weekend in Columbus, Ind., competing in the Indiana/Otter Creek Invitational for the first time.  The event is hosted by the Hoosiers and takes place April 6-7 with a practice round on Sunday, April 5.

The tournament will take place at the Otter Creek Golf Club on a par-72 course spanning 6,179 yards.  The 15-team field is laden with participants from both the Mid-American Conference and the Big Ten.  Joining the Broncos is MAC rival Ball State.  Host Indiana is joined by Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin from the Big Ten. August State, Iowa State, Illinois State, Lipscomb and Marshall round out the field.

There are two teams in the field ranked in the top 50 according to golfstat.com.  Texas ranks No. 38, while UNLV is the highest ranked team in the field at No. 31.  The Hoosiers and Wolverines are ranked just outside of the top 50 at No. 54 and No. 51, respectively.

Registration and practice rounds will take place on Sunday, April 5 with the first and second rounds taking place on Monday.  This will be the second Monday-Tuesday tournament of the spring season for WMU after the Broncos competed in last week's UALR Women's Golf Classic in Hot Springs, Ark.

Monday's 36-hole action will get under way with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.  Tuesday's final round will begin at 9 a.m., with the awards ceremony to immediately follow.  The Indiana/Otter Creek Invitational can be followed through live scoring on golfstat.com.  Results will be available at www.wmubroncos.com at the end of each day's competition.
