SEDONA, Ariz. - Junior Elise Swartout paced the Bronco golf team's individual effort
during the final round of the 2009 Red Rocks Invitational held in
Sedona, Ariz., and hosted by Northern Arizona University.? Western
Michigan finished in 13th place in the 18-team field.
Swartout finished 20th, sharing the spot with Michigan's Brook Bettis at 158 (+14).? The Ann Arbor, Mich., native carded a 9-over par 81 on Sunday morning.? Britney Hamilton finished in an eight-way tie for 25th place, shooting 83 to finish with a two-day score of 160 after carding a 5-over par 77 on Saturday afternoon.
The Broncos as a team finished 11 strokes away from its fourth top-10 finish in five events this year.? WMU finished with a two-day total of 667 with two teams between the Broncos and the University of Montana (656) in 10th place.? Michigan won the team competition with a two-round score of 609 (307-302) with Oral Roberts finishing second (622) followed by Winthrop (626), NAU (629) and Wyoming (630) rounding out the top five.
Montana State's Kelly Gillum earned medalist honors with a final round score of 73 to finish 4-over par for the tournament.? Michigan's Ashley Bauer and Lydia Benitez, as well as Megan Buck, all finished in a tie for second at 7-over par.
Western Michigan will take some time to travel the 121.9 miles between Sedona and Rio Verde as the Broncos prepare to host a tournament in the Valley of the Sun for the seventh year in a row.? The 2009 Duramed Collegiate Invitational at Rio Verde takes place March 6-8 with a practice round beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 5.?
