KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Three IUPUI goals in three minutes helped shut out Western Michigan's men's soccer team, 4-0, at the WMU Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.
IUPUI had a 1-0 lead after the first half, but opened it up by scoring goals in the 63rd, 64th and 66th minutes to finish of the Broncos.
IUPUI's Matt Guy opened the scoring streak when he pulled WMU goalkeeper A.J. Reed out of the net and beat him on the right side off a feed from Cameron Williams. Next up was Javier Portillo who fired from 15 yards out to put the Jaguars up 3-0. Williams then headed a loose ball out of the air and past Reed to ice the game at 4-0.
The Broncos (1-2-1) got off seven shots on net but IUPUI keeper David Barszczowksi made all seven stops. WMU had two shots from point-blank range in the first half. First Trevor McEnroe and next by senior Jordan Fylonenko. Fylonenko would later thread the needle through traffic from 15 yards out, only to have Barszczowski make the save.
Men's soccer now goes on the road to Pittsburgh for the Pitt Invitational, where they will face Robert Morris at 5 p.m. on Friday and the tournament-host Pittsburgh at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
