WMU (3-1, 1-0 MAC) vs. TTU (2-2, 1-0 OVC)

 

GAME NOTES

 

PRE-GAME

  • First-ever meeting between the two schools.  WMU is 2-0 against Division I (FCS) teams under head coach Bill Cubit.
  • First time WMU has hosted a school from the state of Tennessee since 2004, when the Broncos defeated Tennessee-Martin, 42-0, in the season opener.
  • Tonight's game is the last game of the season with a 7 p.m. kickoff.  The remainder of the contests will be afternoon games, and the season finale against Ball State is scheduled to kickoff at 6 p.m. 
  • WMU is 1-1 this season when kickoff time is 7 p.m.
  • The Broncos scored 51 points last week against the Idaho Vandals, and are looking to score 50 plus points in back-to-back weeks for the first time since 1943.
  • Game captains - Schneider Julien and Boston McCornell.

 

 

FIRST QUARTER

  • Jamarko Simmons' nine-yard reception moves him into fifth place all-time at WMU in receiving yards (2,067).
  • Aaron Winchester's 56-yard catch and run is the Broncos' longest play from scrimmage this season.  It is also the longest reception of Winchester's career.
  • Tim Hiller's one-yard touchdown pass to Branden Ledbetter was the 50th of his career, making him and Tim Lester the only Bronco quarterbacks to ever throw 50 touchdown passes.  The reception was Ledbetter's 15th career touchdown, and fourth touchdown of the season.  He has now scored a touchdown in three of the Broncos' four games.
  • John Potter's missed PAT after the first score of the game was the first miss of his career.  He is now 13-of-14.
  • Hiller finishes the quarter 11-for-11 for 160 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Simmons' 19-yard touchdown reception was his second of the game, marking the second time this season he's had a multi-touchdown game and the fourth time in his career.  He is now in 7th place all-time in receiving touchdowns (14).
  • Hiller has now had a multi-touchdown game 16 times in his career.

 

SECOND QUARTER

  • Hiller completed his first 13 passes of the game before throwing an incomplete pass early in the quarter.
  • Jamere Hogue's interception is Tennessee Tech's first of the season.  The interception snapped Hiller's streak of 75 pass attempts without throwing a pick.
  • Brandon West's six-yard touchdown rush is his third of the season and the 10th of his career.
  • The scoring drive at the 10:14 mark in the quarter lasted 1:54, capped off by West's touchdown rush.  It was the fourth scoring drive this season under two minutes, and the sixth drive of five plays or less.
  • West's 51-yard rush is his longest rush of the season.  His career long was 66 yards against Ball State (10/20/07).
  • Kirk Elsworth's 16-yard touchdown reception is the first touchdown of the senior's career.
  • Hiller's completion to Elsworth in the end zone was his 21st completion of the game and 460th of his career.  He passes quarterbacks coach Ryan Cubit for fourth all-time at Western Michigan.

 

THIRD QUARTER

  • Branden Ledbetter's seventh reception ties him with Mobolaji Afariogun for third place on the career list for receptions by a tight end (108).
  • Simmons breaks the 100 yard mark for the second time this season and the eighth time in his career.  He also hauled in a season best 10 receptions.
  • West breaks the 100 yard mark for the second time this season and seventh time in his career.  He has now rushed for 100 yards multiple times in each of his three seasons at WMU. (Twice in 2006, three times in 2007, and twice this season).
  • Schneider Julien's 23-yard touchdown reception was the first of his career.
  • The touchdown was Hiller's fourth of the game, marking his fourth career four touchdown game.
  • Hiller went over the 300 yard mark through the air, the 7th time he's done so in his career, which ranks 2nd all-time at WMU.
  • Second time Hiller has thrown for five touchdowns in his career.  The last time was in a five overtime thriller Oct. 8, 2005 against Ball State.

 

FOURTH QUARTER

  • Backup quarterback Robert Arnheim hauled in his first career reception.
  • Former quarterback Caleb Clark grabbed his first career reception.
  • Deshon Lawrence also recorded his first career reception from backup quarterback Drew Burdi.
  • Elsworth breaks off a career long 36-yard rush.
  • First 3-1 start for WMU since 2006, when the Broncos appeared in the International Bowl against Cincinnati.
