Broncos Edged by Pitt in Second Overtime

Box Score

PITTSBURGH, Pa.- Western Michigan's defense stood strong through regulation and the first overtime period but gave up the winning goal in the 102nd minute in a 1-0 loss to Pitt at the Pitt Invitational Tournament on Sunday.

The Bronco offense was limited to just three shots on the day, two coming off the foot of Tyler Rosenhagen, and was unable to come up with a corner kick. WMU put two shots on goal in the second half and one in the first overtime. The Panthers fired 14 shots, forcing sophomore WMU goalkeeper A.J. Reed to make two saves.

Chris Wilcox scored the golden goal in the second overtime period to give Pitt (4-1-1) its second straight overtime victory. Controlling a throw-in from Justin Boehm, Wilcox turned and ripped a shot into the upper left corner of the net. Western Michigan slipped to 1-4-1 on the season.

Having also beaten Bryant on Friday, Pitt was crowned winners of the invitational tournament. WMU's Trevor McEnroe and Shaun Clements were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Brown & Gold returns to action on Friday, welcoming in-state rival Oakland to the WMU Soccer Complex. The Broncos then head to Valparaiso on Sunday. Both games are scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
