PITTSBURGH, Pa.- Western Michigan fired off a season-high 18 shots but could only come up with one goal in a rain-soaked contest as the Bronco men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Robert Morris at the Pitt Invitational Tournament on Friday.
The Colonials (1-3-0) scored two first-half goals and held off the WMU attack, earning their first win of the year. The Brown & Gold falls to 1-3-1 on the season.
The first RMU score came eight minutes into the game as Neil Schaffer ripped a shot from 35 yards out and found the upper left corner. The Colonials tacked on another goal in the 16th minute to take a 2-0 lead. Kyle McIvor served in a cross to Tyler Stanley, who beat Bronco keeper A.J. Reed in the lower left corner.
After six first-half shots, Western Michigan stepped up its offense in the second half, pulling the trigger 12 times. Trevor McEnroe finally got the Broncos on the scoreboard in the 57th minute. The junior defender joined in the attack on a direct kick, scoring his second collegiate goal and first of the season. C.J. Brown played the kick and after a tip by Javier Jimenez, McEnroe buried the ball in the left corner of the net.
Both Western Michigan's Reed and Colonial goalkeeper Matt Felice made seven saves on the evening. The Broncos owned the advantage on corner kicks, 11-4.
The Broncos will look for its first win in four tries on Sunday, facing host Pitt at 2:30 p.m.
