Men?s Soccer Falls to DePaul, 3-1, in Exhibition Play

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- DePaul scored two second-half goals to edge Western Michigan, 3-1, in the Broncos' final exhibition game of the preseason on Sunday. Junior captain Shaun Clements' netted the lone goal for WMU.

Clements gave Western Michigan a 1-0 advantage in the 29th minute, burying a ball from the left side, 18 yards out off a pass from freshman Sam Meyer, but the Broncos couldn't make the lead stand long.

DePaul evened things up before halftime when Steffen Vroom struck in the 40th minute and the Blue Demons pulled ahead 10 minutes after the break. A Western Michigan player was whistled for a hand ball in the box and John Kornfeld made good on the penalty kick, beating Bronco sophomore goalie A.J. Reed.

Alex Mangan headed in Eric Herosillo's service ball from the right side to give DePaul an insurance goal in the 77th minute.

The Blue Demons placed a total of 12 shots on goal, while the Broncos only managed two. Reed made eight saves in goal for the Brown & Gold.

The Broncos open the regular season at the Michigan State/Radisson Fall Classic Aug. 29 against Vermont and take on St. Francis (Pa.) two days later. The Brown & Gold have a total of 18 games on their 2008 slate, with nine of those scheduled at home.
