Former Bronco Standout Misch Makes Way Back to Big Leagues

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Former Western Michigan southpaw Pat Misch was recalled by San Francisco from Triple-A Fresno on Sunday, April 27 and has found his way into the Giants rotation, scheduled to start Saturday against Philadelphia.

Misch proudly wore a Bronco jersey from 2000-03, and was taken by the Giants in the seventh round of the 2003 amateur draft. A two-time Second Team All-Mid-American Conference selection, Misch still holds the school record for the most strikeouts in a season (99) and the most strikeouts in a game (19) at Western Michigan, and is second in career K's with 265.

Misch was summoned by the Giants this past weekend to replace the injured Kevin Correia, who was placed on the 15-day DL with a strained oblique. It didn't take long for the club to utilize the 26-year old Northbrook, Ill. native, who stepped in Sunday against Cincinnati after a rocky start by Barry Zito, allowing eight runs on seven hits in just three innings. Misch threw the final six innings and had a solid performance, yielding just two runs (both home runs by Brandon Phillips) and five hits, striking out four.

Zito's pitching woes this season have opened the door for the former Bronco, as the club announced that Misch will take over for Zito in the rotation on the road Saturday against the Phillies.

One of the Giants' top prospects, Misch made his first major league appearance on Sept. 21, 2006, and has since bounced back and forth between San Francisco and the minors. He logged a trio of stints with San Francisco last season (July 3-19, Aug. 4-10 and Aug. 16-end of season) and was used in both starting and relief roles with Giants. He made his first career start Aug. 4 of last year at San Diego, the same game in which Barry Bonds tied Hank Aaron with his 755th career home run.

Still looking for his first career win, Misch is 0-4 in his 20 career appearances and has a 3.99 ERA. A bright young arm, he has enjoyed great success against lefthanded batters, yielding just .238 avg. (10-for-42) without home run and at one point in 2007 was unscored upon in 10 of 14 relief outings.
