WMU Head Coach Bill Cubit
“We knew this was going to be a good week because of our story the Detroit News sold 40,000 more papers and I don't think it had anything to do with the presidential race.”
“Just to see those kids battle. We lost so many good players, we were out four of our top five wide outs but they just kept fighting. Steve Morrison did a great job of getting our kids to the quarterback. We made him (Juice Williams) throw it up a few times and fortunately we got some picks there. Our kids just fought. I haven't been around a group in four years that fights like those kids, because we have a lot of guys go down that were banged up. The guys that normally don't play are out there just fighting. What a great, great effort. I want to say the best since I've been around at Western.”
On bowl game chances
“I don't really know, I haven't really looked at it. I think we have a chance, but we have to finish up the season and to be honest with you next week is probably more important than this game here. We have to go out there and get our kids healthy and get ready to play. This is the second straight year that we've beat a BCS team and that says a lot about our kids.”
The depth of the program
“There's a lot of pressure on those kids. When someone goes down, that's your job and your responsibility. You can't let your team down and I think the way we coach that helps out, and that's going to go a long, long way in how they approach life. It was a hard, hard fought victory for us. I saw Keith Dixson out there, Robert Arnheim, guys that no one knows who they are and they played pretty well.”
“There is that comfort level when you work with your receivers so much, and then all of a sudden three of them are gone. Nunez couldn't play and Spider got hurt early and Ledbetter went down early. Tim (Hiller) kept going with who his reads were, not who he felt comfortable with and I think that shows the maturity of what he has.”
On young players
“We've got so many young kids in key situations. John Potter and Ben Armer, how about those kids? They're just young freshman and I knew they would be good sooner or later.”
