KALAMAZOO, Mich. - E.J. Biggers recorded his first interception of the season, sixth of
his career, helping Western Michigan defeat Eastern Michigan, 31-10,
this past Saturday. The win avenged a 19-2 loss in Ypsilanti, Mich., a
year ago and gave the senior corner the first Mid-American Conference
West Division Defensive Player of the Week award of his career.
With the Broncos leading by two touchdowns, Eastern Michigan drove to the Broncos' two-yard line and appeared to be moments from cutting WMU's lead in half. On first-and-goal from, EMU lofted a fade pass into the corner of the end zone and right into the arms of Biggers who had slipped behind the receiver to be in perfect position. It was the second pass of the day that Biggers was able to get his hands on.
In the first quarter, the North Miami Beach, Fla., native jumped route and batted a ball away near the sideline. He was a half step from intercepting the ball and going untouched into the end zone. Biggers finished with seven tackles, including an assist on one of the Broncos' 9.0 tackles for loss against the Eagles.
Biggers is the third WMU defensive player to earn MAC West Defensive POTW, joining Louis Delmas and Boston McCornell, and he is the fifth Bronco overall to earn a weekly award from the conference this season. Along with Delmas and McCornell, Brandon West has been named MAC West Special Teams POTW once and Tim Hiller has earned Offensive POTW twice.
