KALAMAZOO, Mich. - For the second week in a row a member of the Western Michigan football
team has earned a weekly award from the Mid-American Conference. This
week junior Brandon West was named the MAC West Special Teams Player of
the Week thanks to his 239 all-purpose yard performance in WMU's 41-20
win over Ohio.
West amassed 239 all-purpose yards, recording at least 60 yards in kick returns (60), receiving (72) and rushing (107). West scored a touchdown rushing and two receiving for the first three-TD game of his career. It also marked the first time in his career he had more than one receiving TD in one game. West scored on a screen pass from 18 yards out on his first and took another screen 45 yards down the home side line for another. His running score came late in the fourth quarter from 26 yards out to put WMU back up by three touchdowns.
The Brunswick, Ga., native had his third 100-yard rushing game of the season and eighth of his career. He now has 574 yards on 103 carries (5.6) so far this season, leading the team with 95.7 rushing yards per game. He leads the team and the conference in all-purpose yards at 1,027 (171.2 per game). During the game he also matched Elan Banks for second-most kick returns in program history (71).
West was also named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week by the MAC Report Online. He joins Boston McCornell, who earned the Defensive Player of the Week nod a week ago. West is the fourth Bronco to earn a weekly award from the conference, joining Louis Delmas (Sept. 8), Tim Hiller (Sept. 15) and McCornell (Sept. 29).
