Broncos Blanked at Buffalo, 4-0

Box Score

BUFFALO, N.Y.- The Western Michigan men's soccer team fell to 1-1 in Mid-American Conference play, losing 4-0 to Buffalo Friday night. The Broncos continue their stay in New York over the weekend, facing Canisius Sunday at 1 p.m.

The shutout by Buffalo (10-2-1, 2-0-0 MAC) was the Bulls' seventh straight and tied the MAC record for consecutive shutouts set by NIU in 2005. UB has not allowed a goal in 656 minutes, second in the nation behind Northwestern (757). Western Michigan dropped to 2-8-1 overall.

The Bronco offense was held to just one shot the entire evening, off the foot of C.J. Brown on a direct kick. Buffalo however, had no trouble on the attack, rattling off 22 shots.

The first Buffalo goal actually came courtesy of WMU, as a ball careened off of freshman defender Doug Raak and slipped by goalie Paul Lewis for an own goal in the 29th minute. Mateo Escobar added to UB's tally moments later, scoring from 25 yards out in the 34th minute to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead before the half.

Buffalo pulled the game out of reach with two more goals in the second half, strikes by Marc Stencel in the 63rd minute and Lucas Bassan in the 84th minute.

Lewis made seven saves in net for Western Michigan.
