ANN ARBOR, Mich.- Perica Marosevic scored three goals to lead Michigan to a 5-1 victory over Western Michigan (2-10-1) Sunday. Sophomore midfielder Saeed Sulemana Baba scored the lone goal for the Broncos.
Marosevic beat WMU keeper A.J. Reed for the first time at 26:30, firing into the right side of the net. He added his second goal at 32:17, this time hitting the ball from the top of the box.
Baba responded for Western Michigan 34 seconds later to cut the Broncos' deficit to 2-1. Tyler Rosenhagen assisted the goal, Baba's second of the season.
Marosevic struck for a third time at 36:35 to make it a hat trick before halftime.
Michigan extended its 3-1 lead in the second half, as Steve Bonnell and Cam Cameron joined in the scoring action. Bonnell ripped a shot from the left side to the far post in the 47th minute and Cameron hit from 18 yards in the 71st minute.
Reed faced a total of 10 shots in goal for Western Michigan and made five saves. It was his first action between the posts since leaving late in the game at Valparaiso on Sept. 21.
Chris Blais worked the net for Michigan (9-2-2), making three saves. The Wolverines held the shot advantage, 26-11. Freshman midfielder Dan Lewis led WMU with four shots.
Western Michigan will look to get back on the winning track with two home games this week. The Broncos host MAC foe Bowling Green on Wednesday at 2 p.m., then welcome Detroit Sunday at 1 p.m.
