KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Jamarko Simmons, Austin Pritchard and Jim Laney all were named Mid-American Conference West Players of the Week after the first weekend of college football. Simmons led all conference receivers with 144 yards receiving. Pritchard recorded 11 tackles and Laney finished the weekend with a 50.7 punt average to rank second nationally.
Simmons hauled in 14 receptions for 144 yards and two touchdowns against No. 3 West Virginia. The 14 catches rank fourth all-time in a single game in WMU history and ties for ninth place in MAC history.
Pritchard led WMU with 11 tackles at West Virginia, registering five solo and assisting on six more. It was the third double-digit tackle performance of his career.
Laney recorded seven punts for a 50.7 average, a single-game career best. Laney had a long punt of 59 yards and landed three inside the opponent's 20-yard line. Laney ranks second in the nation in punt average and leads the MAC.
