KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The MAC Report Online announced its annual Preseason All-Mid-American Conference Team on June 19 with six Broncos earning spots. Western Michigan boasts three first team honorees and three second team selections. Also announced on Tuesday was the addition of Robbie Krutilla to the FWAA Outland Trophy Watch List.
Krutilla, also on the Rimington Trophy Watch List for the second season in a row is now in the running for the national award bestowed upon the best interior lineman in football. He headlines the list of Broncos to receive Preseason All-MAC Report honors as well, earning a spot of the first team offense. Krutilla anchors an offensive line that not only produced the second 1,000-yard rusher in as many seasons in 2006 but also helped his unit to lead the conference and rank 14th in the country in sacks allowed per game (1.3 spg).
Also showing up on the first team offense is Jamarko Simmons. Simmons led the Broncos with 668 yards receiving a year ago with break out games against Indiana (99 yards), Florida State (123 yards) and Cincinnati (172 yards).
Western Michigan's final first team selection came on the defensive side of the ball with Londen Fryar earning the nod after leading the conference with five interceptions in 2006. Fryar had two picks against Toledo, including one that he returned 92 yards for the score.
Filling out the second team for WMU were Branden Ledbetter, Louis Delmas and Brandon West. Ledbetter, who led the team with six receiving touchdowns from the tight end position, earnd John Mackey Player of the Week honors after hauling in two scoring grabs and had 101 yards receiving against Miami.
Delmas continued to flourish for the Bronco defense, moving from cornerback to safety in 2006. He was second on the team with four interceptions despite missing a pair of games due to injury. West earned a spot on the Preseason All-MAC Report team as a kick returner after finishing the year ranked eighth in the nation in kick-off returns, earning Sporting News Freshman All-America honors.
