Pat Misch Gets the Call

SAN FRANCISCO - Former Bronco left-handed pitcher Pat Misch received the call Tuesday that we would be joining the San Francisco Giants "big club" according to a published report on MLB.com.  Misch holds the season record for strikeouts at Western Michigan with 99 K's and is second on the career list with 265 punch outs.

Misch joined the Giants on Tuesday after his contract was purchased from Triple-A Fresno (Grizzlies). He was the Giants' seventh-round pick in the 2003 draft and went 5-4 with a 2.26 ERA in 18 games (17 starts) for Double-A Connecticut (Defenders).  Misch also posted a 4-2 mark with a 4.02 ERA while with the Grizzlies.

"They told me to be ready and that I'll get in there," said Misch in the report published at MLB.com. "They said to be on your toes and ready for every situation."

"It is a great sense of accomplishment when a dream becomes reality. Pat Misch has persevered through the farm system of the San Francisco Giants and now gets an opportunity to join the major league team. Everyone associated with Bronco baseball feels very proud of what Pat has accomplished and we wish him much success. It is a very difficult process to get to the major league level and the Broncos now have two players in Pat Misch and Brian Sikorski," commented WMU head baseball Coach Randy Ford.

Misch's success on the field was highlighted by his 99 strikeouts during the 2001 season.  He followed that performance with 95 K's in 2002.  He went 6-2 in 12 starts (15 appearances) and 78.1 innings on the mound.  His most dominant performances of that season came against Mid-American Conference foes Central Michigan and Toledo.  Misch fanned 11 batters in each start, working a pair of complete-game victories.

For his efforts in 2002, Misch earned second-team All-MAC and was the 161st player (fifth round) selected in the Major League Baseball Draft by the Houston Astros.
