Moore?s Game high 25 Points Leads Women?s Basketball To 69-63 Victory Over Kent State

KALAMAZOO, Mich. ? Junior Carrie Moore's hot hand in the first half led the Western Michigan University women's basketball team (9-11, 6-3 MAC) to a 69-63victory over visiting Kent State(13-7, 6-3 MAC) in University Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Moore scored 19 of her game high 25 points in the first half to pull the Broncos out of a seven-point deficit to start the game. Moore also pulled down 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.

Help also came from senior Maria Jillian who poured in a season high 17 points, with 12 coming in the second half. Western's all-time leading scorer senior Casey Rost also added 17 points. Kent was up quickly 7-0 but WMU went on a 10-2 run to take the lead on a Jillian jumper at the 14:50 mark. Kent State quickly tied the ball game 11-11, but a lay up by Rost with 13:12 left in the half gave WMU the lead and they never looked back. The Brown & Gold's largest lead of the game was 16 (47-31) at the 15:50 mark of the second half.

The Golden Flashes pulled within seven late in the second half but could not get closer than six. Sarah Burgess led Kent State with 19 points and Western Michigan was able to hold the MAC scoring leader, Lindsay Shearer (20.1), to 14 points, with only two coming in the second half.

WMU women's basketball continues league play as it will travel to Oxford, Ohio on Feb. 8 against Miami (Ohio). The game is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start at Millet Arena.
