MIAMI, Fla. - The Western Michigan University women's basketball team (0-3) fell to American (1-3) (74-72) in overtime on Saturday at the FIU Thanksgiving Classic.

Junior Lindsey Brown earned a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds.  Senior Casey Rost added 17 points while teammate junior Carrie Moore had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

American scored first in the extra period to take a 70-67 lead over the Broncos.  A free throw from junior Nicole Watkins cut the lead to one (70-68).  Rost would shoot two from the charity stripe to tie the game (70-70) with 2:24 left.  American scored again at the other end to take the lead (72-70) but WMU's Brown would shoot a lay-up with 1:03 remaining to tie the game at (72-72).  The Eagles Tara Williams made a lay-up with 56 seconds left in overtime to win the ball game.

A lay-up from Moore at the start of the second half sparked a 9-0 run for the Broncos to take a one-point lead (37-36).  The Brown & Gold remained in control of the game until the 1:11 mark when American tied the ball game at (65-65).  The Broncos regained control after a lay-up from Brown (67-65) with 44 seconds on the clock.  American's Tala Hadavi would score with just a few seconds left in the half to put the game into overtime.

At the end of the first half the Broncos trailed American (36-28) despite an early (15-9) lead at the 11:40 mark after back-to-back lay-ups from Moore and Brown.  Just under the eight minute mark, American pulled away from the Broncos after a 7-0 run that gave them a (25-19) lead.  WMU trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half.

WMU women's basketball returns to University Arena on Dec. 1 against Purdue.  The game is slated for 7:00 p.m.
