Box Score

Kalamazoo
, Mich. ? Western Michigan women's basketball closed out the 2005 exhibition season with a 93-59 victory over Northwood on Thursday night at University Arena.  Casey Rost led all scorers with 26 points and Lindsay Brown registered the game's only double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.

The Broncos took control of things early, jumping out to a 15-4 lead at the 15-minute mark.  Brown sparked the run with six points, all on lay ups.  Amanda Parker hit one of her two three-pointers to give WMU its first lead, 5-2 at the 18:12 mark.  A Tiera DeLaHoussaye lay up followed by a Carrie Moore jumper extended the margin to 9-2.  Rost capped the run with a lay up.  Moore and Parker also finished in double figures, scoring 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Western Michigan stretched its lead to 15 on three occasions during the opening stanza and took a 16-point edge into the locker room at halftime.  Rost's second trey of the first half put the Broncos in front, 42-26.

The second half flowed much as the first, with WMU extending its lead to as many as 35 points.  Chelsea Rogers' lay up with two minutes remaining put the Broncos ahead, 90-55.  The Brown & Gold climbed to its first 20-point lead with less than four minutes gone in the second half when Moore converted on a three-point play.

Northwood was led by Devon Hillstrom and Anna Trim with 13 and 12 points, respectively.  Hillstrom also paced her team on the glass with seven rebounds.

For the game, Western Michigan shot 47.5 percent from the field, 73.3 percent in the second half, to Northwood's 28.6 percent.  The Broncos out-rebounded the Timberwolves, 50-43, and made 12 more free throws (31-of-47) than Northwood attempted (13-of-19).

Another positive for the Broncos heading into the regular season is the fact that all dressed players logged their name in the scoring column.  Western Michigan will tip off the 2005-06 campaign on Nov. 20 when No. 15 Notre Dame visits University Arena.  The season opener, scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m., can be seen on Comcast Local.
